With a gala concert in the Grosses Festspielhaus in Salzburg, Ungenacher Franz Milacher (65) says goodbye on Saturday as conductor of Postmusik Salzburg. He conducted the orchestra for 27 years and formed it into a model orchestra in Salzburg, as Matthäus Rieger, state chairman of the Salzburg brass bands, emphasizes.
Franz Milacher learned to play the flugelhorn in 1970 and worked in many orchestras. From 1975 to 1978 he was with the military band of Upper Austria. In 1985, Ungenacher completed the Kapellmeister course and was a conductor in Bruckmühl. In 1995 he founded the district youth wind orchestra. The following year he took over the ailing postal music in Salzburg, which grew to 80 musicians during his era.
The postal music became known for its trips abroad, including five times to China. He recorded twelve CDs with his band, whereby the sound-of-music CD of the post-big band he founded went gold. Milacher is still conductor of the music band Neukirchen/Vöckla.
