Director Elza Gauja’s feature film “Postcard from Rome”, nominated for the national cinema award “Lielais Kristaps” in four nominations, including “best feature film”, will go on tour in Latvia immediately after the January 11 premiere, with the participation of the film’s actors and creative team, according to National Cinema center.
Postcard from Rome is the love story of two postmen who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease. The film has been nominated for four leads Kristapa the Great for nominations – Best Feature Film, Best actress, The best actor and Best cinematographer for a feature film. All four Kristapa the Great nominees – director Elza Gauja, actors Indra Burkovska and Jānis Jarāns, cameraman Aleksandrs Grebņevs – will participate in special screenings of the film both in Riga cinemas (Forum Cinemas, Splendid Palace, Apollo Kino, Cinnamon Alpha, Kino Us etc.), but also in Liepāja, Ventspils, Talsi, Kuldīga, Sigulda, Cēsis, Valmiera, Ogre, Bergi and other places. The film will be available in cinemas throughout Latvia.
The film has already evoked the first emotions in the circles of film professionals and journalists. After the film’s press screening, two female journalists came to the director and asked to give an interview, but they could not control their emotions yet – the film’s story seemed so moving. Film director Marta Elina Martinsons admitted that “after the movie Elsa, I cried all the way!”, but film critic Kristine Matīsa believes that “the finale of the film is simply shocking”. Culture journalist Kaspars Zaviļeiskis writes that “it was easy to keep a warm and untroubled spirit, and this could be a real Jarana comeback [atgriešanās]”.
The film was shot in Latvia and Italy, it was made in a studio Picture House in cooperation with the Latvian Academy of Culture and studio Riverbed. The cinematographer of the film is Aleksandrs Grebnevs, the screenplay was written by Elizabete Lukšo-Ražinska and Elsa Gauja, the film artist is Ieva Kauliņa, the costume designer is Kabish, the editing director is Jurģis Ločmelis. The author of the film’s music is Andris Gauja, the music was played by Matīss Čudars, Artis Orubs, Jānis Porietis and Andris Gauja. Film producers – Uģis Riekstiņš, Elza Gauja, Andris Gauja, executive producer Marta Šleiere.
The financiers of the film are the State Cultural Capital Fund, TV3 Group Latvia and the National Film Center. The film will be offered as Go3 original content, its distributor in Latvia is Riverbed Sales.
