Postcard from Rome: Love Story of Two Postmen Reaches 20,000 Viewers and Wins National Film Award

A love story of two postmen Postcard from Rome with Jānis Jarān and Indra Burkovska in the main roles, was made as a micro-budget film, but within a month since its premiere, it has reached almost 20 thousand viewers on the big screens, waking up new screening places in various Latvian parishes. The demand for the film has also been increased by the fact that Postcard from Rome received the National Film Award Great Kristaps as the best feature film of the year.

Latvian Cinematographers Union project Cinema for everyone and everywhere in Latvia director Ieva Pitruka believes: “Director Elsa Gauja managed to feel and create such an artistic tuning fork that resonates in the heart of every viewer. Thanks to this film, we have not only succeeded in reviving screenings in the regions of Latvia, where films were not offered for a long time due to the lack of viewers, but even to convince new places, which had never been shown in cinemas before, to show the film. When receiving reports from the very small places, sometimes you have to jokingly ask – do you even have that many people living there?”

In turn, the project Kinopunkt manager Maija Kalniņa states: “The fact that people want to watch the film everywhere is a phenomenon that includes a universal code that appeals to a large part of society. Such a phenomenon has also happened with film Postcard from Rome – the demand for the film grew in an avalanche, and the entire map of film screening points in Latvia was covered at high speed, up to prisons and nursing homes. And when it seems that the film is being shown absolutely everywhere, more and more new applications come in, proving how big Latvia really is!”

Although more than a month has passed since the premiere, the creative team is still actively involved in the Latvian tour of the film, visiting screenings in all regions of Latvia. Suns, Splendid Palace, Kino Bize, Cinamon Alfa, Cinamon Balle, Cēsu kino, Kino Lora Sigulda, Valmiera 3D Cinemain Kuldīgas cinema, Talsu Kino Auseklis u. c.
