“Postcard from Rome: Elza Gauja’s Touching Love Story of Two Senior Postmen” – Premiering January 11 in Latvia

The new year of domestic cinema will begin with Elza Gauja’s action film Postcard from Rome, which will be shown in cinemas across Latvia from January 12. Elsa Gauja’s second feature film is a touching love story of two senior postmen, Jānis Jarāns and Indra Burkovska play the main roles. In order to win a trip to Rome, Alvina and Ernest embark on a cunning scheme with lottery tickets, but their plan is overshadowed by Alvina’s rapidly progressing Alzheimer’s disease.

In the film, Elsa Gauja speaks with ease and a smile, while not losing sympathy, about a topical topic in society – as the average life expectancy increases, more and more people are faced with memory disorders. This is one of the rare Latvian films where the main characters of the story are senior citizens. “There was no need to force emotions from the actors during the filming. Both Jarans and Burkovska laughed and cried because, as it turns out, the theme of the film has touched us all in its own way,” admits director Elza Gauja.

The film Postcard from Rome will premiere on January 11 in the newly renovated Great Hall of the Splendid Palace cinema and will be screened in cinemas throughout Latvia from January 12; the actors and creators of the film will also participate in many screenings. From December 28, pre-sale of tickets for movie screenings in several cinemas starts.

The film was shot in Latvia and Italy, it was made in the Picture House studio in cooperation with the Latvian Academy of Culture and the Riverbed studio. The cinematographer of the film is Aleksandrs Grebnevs, the screenplay was written by Elizabete Lukšo-Ražinska and Elsa Gauja, the film artist is Ieva Kauliņa, the costume designer is Kabish, the editing director is Jurģis Ločmelis. The author of the film’s music is Andris Gauja, the music was composed by Matīss Čudars, Artis Orubs, Jānis Porietis and Andris Gauja.
