“Postcard from Rome” Becomes Most Widely Shown Film in Latvia – Wins National Cinema Award

Director Elza Gauja’s feature film “Postcard from Rome” recently became the most widely shown film in all of Latvia – within a month of its premiere, the film was shown on 200 large screens in various cinemas in all regions.

The film exhibitors from the association “Kinopunkts” and the Latvian Cinematographers’ Union admit that such audience interest has not been observed since Viesturs Kairiš’s historical drama “Melania’s Chronicle” (2016).

The demand for the film has also been increased by the fact that the film has just received the National Cinema Award “Lielais Kristaps” as the best feature film.

The love story of two postmen “Postcard from Rome” with Jānis Jarān and Indra Burkovska in the main roles was made as a micro-budget film, but within a month since the premiere it has reached almost 20 thousand viewers on the big screens, waking up new screening places in various Latvian parishes.

Although more than a month has passed since the premiere, the creative team is still actively involved in the Latvian tour of the film, attending screenings in all regions of Latvia, “Postcard from Rome” is still in the permanent repertoire of cinemas – “Forum Cinemas”, “Apollo Kino Plaza”, “Apollo Kino Akropole” and “Apollo Kino Domina”, “K.Suns”, “Splendid Palace”, “Kino Bize”, “Cinamon Alfa”, “Cinamon Balle”, Cēsi cinema, “Kino Lora” in Sigulda, “3D Cinema” in Valmiera , Kuldīga cinema, Talsu “Kino Auseklis” etc

The next special screenings with the participation of the authors are planned on February 17 in Riga, at the “Splendid Palace” cinema (tickets are almost sold out), on February 18 at the Tukuma Cultural Center, on February 24 at the Kauguru Cultural Center and elsewhere. The distribution of the film “Postcard from Rome” in Latvia is provided by “Riverbed Sales”, the Latvian Cinematographers Union and the association “Kino Punkts”.

The film was shot in Latvia and Italy, it was made in the “Picture House” studio in cooperation with the Latvian Academy of Culture and the “Riverbed” studio. The cinematographer of the film is Aleksandrs Grebnevs, the script was written by Elizabete Lukšo-Ražinska and Elsa Gauja, the film artist is Ieva Kauliņa, the costume designer is Kabish, the editing director is Jurģis Ločmelis. The author of the film’s music is Andris Gauja, the producers are Uģis Riekstiņš, Elza Gauja, Andris Gauja, the executive producer is Marta Šleiere.
