The residents of Wohlen near Bern are very angry about the planned changes in public transport. These envisage the discontinuation of the existing postal bus line 107 and its replacement by a new route, reports “Der Bund”.

The current line offers passengers a direct connection to Bern train station, while the proposed line 108 would lead to Europaplatz instead.

“A large protest”

The dissatisfaction in Wohlen BE is so great that “a large protest movement” is gathering, as fellow campaigner Hans-Ulrich Grunder notes.

Critics say the proposed plans are “extremely disadvantageous” and would sacrifice important connections to the Neufeld High School, the Lindenhof Hospital and the university’s institutes.

That is why signatures for a petition are now being collected in Wohlen BE. Over 400 have already been collected.

The protesting population is by no means alone. Politicians are on their side. The planned abolition of the line is met with “widespread incomprehension” by mayor Bänz Müller (SP plus).

Interested in a good solution

Despite the anger of residents and political representatives, the Bern-Mittelland Regional Conference continues to stand behind its plans. For them, the Europaplatz destination is a sensible and necessary development of public transport.

However, its chairman, Thomas Iten, stresses that they are interested in a peaceful solution.
