This news should make many Postbank customers happy. From next Wednesday, many will be able to claim up to 1,000 euros. “After applications have been submitted, legitimate claims for damages are usually reimbursed by the end of the following month,” explains a spokesman. But why does Postbank just give customers 1,000 euros? And how do you as a customer get the money?
That’s why Postbank customers are now getting money
We have already reported several times that Postbank customers are angry. And not just in a moment, but for over a year. Customers are up in arms because they have no access to their account and therefore no access to their money. In addition, the bank often no longer gives out money – neither at the counter nor at the ATM. As early as mid-August we reported that things were going haywire at Postbank. And then the banking regulator got involved and threatened Postbank with consequences. In order to calm the situation and as an apology, Postbank is now transferring money to customers. But not everyone is compensated.

The damage must have been caused by a seizure, bankruptcy or when setting up or deregistering a so-called seizure protection account, they report Time and that Handelsblatt. Customers must provide proof of the damage with appropriate evidence, such as reminder costs, return debits or late payment interest. Since Wednesday (December 20, 2023) at 8 a.m., customers who have been affected by delays in seizure requests can via this website Apply online for compensation of up to 1,000 euros from Postbank.
Bad news for customers: problems will remain in 2024
Actually, Postbank’s IT conversion, which took place in several steps between the turn of the year and the summer, shouldn’t cause any problems at all. But to this day, customers are still struggling with problems. And it will stay that way for a while, as a spokesman has now admitted. Some customers will have to wait until 2024 until their concerns are resolved. Processing the remaining backlogs is “complex and sometimes takes more time,” the spokesman admitted to the Handelsblatt. “We will therefore finish processing some of these cases at the beginning of 2024.”
