Postal companies change ‘false’ durability claims

Parcel deliverers PostNL and DHL are changing their sustainability claims. They do this at the request of the Dutch Consumer and Markets Authority. The regulator concluded that the companies are misleading consumers with claims such as “your package will be delivered permanently”.

According to ACM director Edwin van Houten, many green applications are being made in the postal sector, “although the delivery sector is still polluting, with a major impact on the climate”. Applications like this do not help the user to make a good choice, he says.

And while customers are increasingly shopping online and getting things shipped more often, Van Houten explains. “They only see the last kilometers of the process.”

Changes

PostNL supports the decision. “The ACM received the statements that may be false. We have been talking about this. In addition, European rules are going to change,” said a spokesperson. “That’s why we make our sentences clearer. “

These applications should be dealt with by the middle of next year, is the agreement with the postal companies. PostNL says it will no longer put “Constant Delivery” on the vans. DHL is removing, among other things, the text “Of course on the way”. Another major parcel provider, DPD, has made changes before.
