“Telling the truth to the point of recklessness,” said a friend, is what living is all about. Sometimes we fear being wrong, failing or saying things wrong with those we depend on. It is natural, survival is not a game and more when there is a family behind you.
Likewise, when you are on the staff of a newspaper or you want to be watched in politics or climb a position in a club, you fear the extravagance, despite your good intentions.
Against fear there is only one answer, be naturally yourself and be sincere. Assertiveness is the precise term for saying things as they are believed to be without acrimony or arrogance.
But let’s move on to the consequences. The worst that can happen from “disliking” or not knowing if you are saying the right thing is to be unemployed, left alone, disowned by others, lose everything and finally end yourself with the inexorable stresses of life. In other words, the same consequences that being sincere and natural could entail.
The difference in the social world between fearing others and telling the truth is freedom. Dying or losing everything in freedom is more dignified than losing it in the inanimate gesture of the coward.
