This Saturday, October 14, the domestic post-rock group “Nostra” invites you to the presentation of their latest album in Vagona Hall. Warmers of the concert are the group “Omerta”, which is rarely seen and heard “live”.
The founders of the group “Nostra” are guitarist Harijs Ijabs and drummer Einars Kotāns, who were later joined by bassist Xavier Lands. Until now, they had the EP “Transmission(s)” (2018), the album “Nemoralis” (2019) and the charity double single “Law of the Tongue” (2020) dedicated to the Latvian Nature Foundation, but now the new album has also joined the discography of “Nostra” “Sea of Fertility” (2023).
The concept or the biggest influence of the new album is the Japanese writer Yukio Mishima, who in his works magnificently describes life with all its ups and downs, but his ideas are permeated by the great common denominator of all people’s lives – through the splendor and contrasts of life, we go in the direction of quiet nothingness. Here, too, a parallel arises with the Sea of Abundance, one of the depressions of the Moon, originally so called because it looked like a sea to observers.
“Nostra” includes a whole bouquet of different genres in its sound, the unifying element of which is post-rock. “The post-rock genre nowadays has long since broken the boundaries and transformed into a cocktail of different genres. The Riga trio “Nostra” is gradually but steadily paving the way to its listeners not only here, but also in the world, which is a genuine joy. Mood music, which is not just entertainment, rather even a catalyst for occupying the mind – like a book, a film, a work of art, the music of “Nostra” also makes you think. And in today’s world, we really, really need to stop a bit and think about where we are heading and whether the direction is the right one,” thinks Helena Zariņa, producer of the alternative music movement “Vārnu Laiks”.
