How to deal with dry cough post-Covid-19
Survivors can experience a dry cough for some time after being declared cured of Covid-19.
The cough when excessive can cause irritation and inflammation, as well as make the dry cough worse.
In addition, the cause of a dry cough that does not go away after Covid-19 can also come from conditions when coughing usually makes sufferers breathe through their mouths.
This can cause dry air to rush into the lungs, affect the lining of the airways, and cause persistent coughing.
There are several ways to deal with a dry cough post-Covid-19 that can be tried, including:
Practice breathing so that you can breathe deeply again. Use abdominal breathing with the stomach rising and falling when inhaling and exhaling, as well as nasal breathing to start and rest breathing exercises
Cover your mouth and swallow air when you cough
Inhale and exhale gently through the nose repeatedly until the urge to cough is gone
Drink lots of water, or warm drinks like ginger
Suck on lozenges
Some of the ways to deal with a dry cough post-Covid-19 above may not be able to instantly or immediately cure this health problem.
But, by continuing to practice, health problems after Covid-19 can usually improve.
Survivors of the corona virus infection also often experience coughing up phlegm after Covid-19.
This condition is often accompanied by wheezing or wheezing, mild shortness of breath, or chest pain.
Although it feels annoying, the phlegm that comes with coughing is removed from the body to clear the lungs and prevent pneumonia.
For those of you who are bothered by coughing up phlegm post-Covid-19, try the following ways:
Deep breathing exercises. The trick is to inhale deeply through your nose, hold it for a count of three, then exhale slowly through your mouth. Repeat three to four times and don’t force it if it’s uncomfortable
Relaxing breathing exercises. The trick is to sit in an upright and comfortable position, then take slow breaths for 20-30 seconds, control your breathing, and feel if there is still tightness. Repeat up to three times
Fast breathing exercises. The trick, take a slow breath through your nose, then exhale quickly through your mouth. Repeat up to four times and do not continue the exercise if you become breathless or dizzy
Try to sit up straight as much as possible, unless the physiotherapist recommends another position
Take cough medicine that your doctor prescribes, usually containing antibiotics or steroids
Use an inhaler to breathe easier
Drink lots of water, or drink warm drinks like ginger
Inhale hot steam from the basin so that the respiratory airways are moist
Try to start building your exercise routine again
If the various ways to overcome the post-Covid-19 cough above have been tried and have not worked, immediately consult a doctor.
