In connection with the Gabby Petito murder case, investigators have reportedly found human remains. These were found near personal items that apparently belong to the missing friend of the 23-year-old, Brian Laundrie, reports the US broadcaster NBC, among others. Corpse detection dogs would have led investigators to the alleged body parts.
The items were previously discovered in Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in the US state of Florida, US media reported on Wednesday, citing the lawyer for the 23-year-old’s family. In the afternoon (local time) the FBI also confirmed that “items of interest” had been found in the search for the missing friend. It was unclear what exactly was found. The broadcaster NBC spoke of a backpack.
Previously, the young man’s parents are said to have met with investigators in the park. TV pictures showed how sniffer dogs and police combed the area on Wednesday afternoon (local time).
Gabby Petito was strangled
The 22-year-old Gabby Petito had not returned from a trip through the USA with her boyfriend in the summer. The case is attracting attention both in the US and internationally – not least because the Florida couple shared numerous pictures and videos from their trip on social networks. After an intensive search, Petito’s body was finally found in September in the state of Wyoming. According to the coroner, the young woman was strangled.
Petito’s friend Brian Laundrie had returned from traveling with Petito in September alone. Shortly afterwards he also disappeared without a trace. The police have been looking for the 23-year-old for weeks – especially in the nature reserve in which the objects have now been discovered. Why the journey of the couple, who looked happy in pictures, came to a fatal end is open.
