Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – The Freiburg district court continues to negotiate today (9:00 a.m.) against a former member of the volunteer fire brigade who is said to have started several fires in the region. The taking of evidence has not yet been completed. According to a court spokesman, it could be that the judgment will still be made in the course of the day. At the start of the private trial two weeks ago, the 20-year-old was silent about the allegations.
At the age of 18, he is said to have set fire to several buildings near Freiburg, including a wood store, the tool shed for a football club and a vineyard. The public prosecutor’s office accuses the man of five cases of arson. This resulted in property damage of more than 100,000 euros. (Ref .: 17 Ls 243 Js 27350/19)
It is not the only case in Baden-Württemberg in which firefighters are suspected of being alleged arsonists. In mid-June, for example, a fireman before the Heilbronn district court took responsibility for several acts after a series of arson attacks that had lasted for months.
