Possible streak through winter sports for the Dutch in Austria

The Austrian Ministry of Health wants to designate four countries, including the Netherlands, as ‘virus variant areas’, reports de krant Tyrolean daily newspaper. This means that tourists from those countries must be quarantined for ten days upon arrival in Austria. This may put winter sports in question for many Dutch people.

The ministry has not yet made a decision, but according to the newspaper, that will probably happen tomorrow and then the rule will take effect on Friday. In addition to the Netherlands, this concerns Great Britain, Norway and Denmark.

The measure should apply to everyone, including fully vaccinated people and people who have already had their booster shot. The quarantine rule applies in principle for ten days, but will be lifted if a negative PCR test occurs after five days. According to the newspaper, it amounts to an entry ban.

Lockdown ended

At first it seemed that the country the 2G measure wanted to use for tourists. So only vaccinated people or people who have recently had corona would get a QR code. It was already clear from January that Austria no longer considers the Janssen vaccine, which requires one shot, as a full vaccination.

on Sunday 12 December a three-week lockdown in Austria came to an end. The government considered this necessary to reduce the infection and hospital figures. The lockdown will still apply to unvaccinated people and will in principle last until tomorrow, but Chancellor Nehammer has said it can also be extended.
