Possible Storms for the Weekend, Clear Skies for Dominican National Parade

NEW YORK — To cap off the work week, the New York area will have a day of good weather and temperatures just before the return of possible storms for the weekend.

The possibility of severe weather would be for Saturday afternoon and last through Sunday morning. At this point, the greatest risk appears to come from damaging winds and hail, although tornadoes cannot be ruled out either.

Nearly the entire tri-state area is in the risk area for lightning, hail, destructive winds, potential tornadoes, and even flash flooding. The rain is not expected to be too heavy at any time, so flooding is not the main concern, but it remains a threat for particularly saturated areas.

Saturday morning will be clear before the storms arrive, and then the skies will clear up a bit on Sunday after the system moves one. And any lingering storms Sunday morning should favor the Hudson Valley and Connecticut, so most will be completely dry by that day, though it will remain warm and muggy.

Forecast for the next week

We won’t have to wait long for the next round of showers and storms as they look set to arrive Monday night through Tuesday morning. But the good news: after that, the weather looks pretty nice for the rest of next week. The highs will be very seasonal, in the mid 80’s with lots of sun over the weekend.
