Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York State, said on Sunday that some activities could resume after May 15. A recovery that should take place initially in the northern part of the state, but not in New York City.
A gradual recovery is envisioned in New York State. Some manufacturing activities and construction sites could resume there after May 15, said Sunday, April 26, the governor of the state, Andrew Cuomo.
He nevertheless specified that this recovery should take place, initially, in the northern part of the state, and not in New York City.
“Southern (state of) New York,” where the economic capital of the country is located, “will be a little more complicated,” he said.
Indeed, coordination work is necessary upstream with the areas bordering the city, where many people live who usually work in New York, said the governor.
May 15 corresponds to the date until which the latter has, for the moment, extended the containment measures.
Reopening conditional on further decline in hospitalizations
The restart of certain manufacturing and construction activities is the first phase of the recovery plan.
A minimum of two weeks is expected before starting the second phase of this plan, which includes the reopening of other businesses or offices, to ensure that the first phase has not caused a resurgence of the pandemic.
The governor, however, made it clear that this reopening was conditional on a further decline in hospitalizations by May 15.
In the past 24 hours, New York State has recorded 367 deaths from the coronavirus, the lowest daily toll since March 30 (332).
The Covid-19 pandemic has killed 16,966 people in New York State to date.
