Possible respiratory complaints due to ‘very poor’ air quality southwest | Inland

The smog warning that was already issued for the entire country on Thursday, also applies to the other parts of the country for the time being.

The RIVM advises people who are sensitive to bad air to stay indoors and to limit heavy physical exertion, especially in the late afternoon and early evening, because the air is then most polluted.

Smog caused by ozone can lead to (an increase in) respiratory symptoms, such as coughing and shortness of breath, worsening of asthma symptoms and a decrease in lung function. Irritation to the eyes, nose and throat also occurs.

Smog from ozone is created by the accumulation of air pollution on sunny days, when there is little wind. Pollutants are converted into ozone under the influence of sunlight.
