Possible Opening of Rafah Border Crossing between Gaza Strip and Egypt

Tuesday evening reports the Egyptian TV channel Al Qahera that Rafah, the only border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, can be opened on Wednesday.

The TV channel refers to sources, and the information has not been confirmed.

The border crossing will only remain open for the medical evacuation of injured Palestinians, the TV channel further reports. How that will possibly take place is also completely unknown.

Does not exclude opening

The news agency AFP also reports the same.

– Healthcare personnel will be ready tomorrow (Wednesday) at the border crossing to examine patients coming from the Gaza Strip and assess which hospitals they should be sent on to, an unnamed source in the healthcare system in the Egyptian city of El Arish told the AFP news agency.

The Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz sits on similar information as the Egyptian TV channel and AFP.

However, Avisa writes that a decision to open the Rafah crossing has not yet been made, and refers to an unnamed Palestinian official.

However, the anonymous source does not rule out that the transition could be opened on Wednesday.

Also the news agency AFP

The information is confirmed by an Egyptian security source at the Rafah crossing.

Only lifeline

The Gaza Strip borders only Egypt and Israel. After Hamas’s large-scale attack against Israel on October 7, Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza.

It is through the Rafah crossing that the limited humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip has entered.

However, no one has been allowed to pass through the crossing into Egypt.

The Egyptian military has sent large forces to the border crossing.

Dagbladet updates the case.
