Several variants of this price cap are possible. For example, PvdA and GroenLinks previously proposed to set the price for users up to the consumption of an average household at the January 2022 price. Above that, you pay full price.
Complicated measurement
A variant is also possible where energy companies can charge a maximum amount per unit of energy, as well as a price cap where the price is tied to your home’s energy label.

But, insiders point out, the introduction of all the variants cannot be done in the very short term, because it is a very complicated measure. The government may not provide details on energy plans until the end of next week.
“Everything is on the table,” Climate and Energy Minister Jetten told the House of Representatives. “We cannot afford the luxury of rejecting the options presented by the municipalities, by the parties in advance. We quickly decide what it will be. But it must also be feasible, every plan has its hitches.”
Nobody closes
The Netherlands, including in Europe, has always been a strong opponent of price caps and energy prices. Over the past week, the government has been diligently seeking measures to reduce high energy bills. They want to avoid people being locked out this winter because they can’t pay their bills. That deal can be done with energy companies, but there is still a discussion on how to set up a special emergency fund to help defaulters.

In a European context, the European Commission has put forward a proposal to introduce a maximum price for electricity. This is electricity that comes, for example, from the sun, wind power or nuclear power plants. At the end of September, the Netherlands and the European Member States will decide what the plans will be.
