If FC Groningen achieves direct promotion to the Eredivisie in the home match against Roda JC next Friday, players and staff will be honored in Euroborg on Sunday afternoon, May 12. In that case, the festivities in the stadium start at 1 p.m.
To celebrate a promotional party, FC Groningen must beat direct competitor Roda JC at home next Friday. The match with the Limburgers – who have a three-point lead in the rankings and therefore need a draw to be promoted – starts at 8 p.m. Euroborg has been sold out for this promotional blockbuster for weeks. A win over the team from Kerkrade is enough because FC Groningen has a better goal difference.
If the Trots van het Noorden win against Roda JC, and therefore a return to the Eredivisie, the team of head coach Dick Lukkien will be honored on Sunday afternoon, May 12, in Euroborg. In that case, the stadium gates will open at 1 p.m. The official ceremony starts an hour later, at 2 p.m. If promotion is realized on Friday evening, the more exact content of the tribute program will be announced in the following hours via the official club channels.
In consultation with the municipality of Groningen, Euroborg was chosen as the ceremony location. A possible ceremony on the Grote Markt or in the City Park is not an option. Both locations are unavailable on this date due to construction and/or other activities. Euroborg is then the most obvious location for the promotion party.
