Inter’s Marotta Contacts Dybala and Szczesny Could Free Sommer
In the last season, many in Milan have mourned the absence of Paulo Dybala. Despite the disappointing performance of De Ketelaere, the management at Casa Milan looked back with nostalgia at the Roma star under Mourinho. Dybala’s potential acquisition was one of the many reasons for disagreement between current CEO Furlani and Paolo Maldini. Last season, Inter, who courted Dybala throughout the summer, ultimately chose to invest in Lukaku, primarily listening to Simone Inzaghi’s requests.
Now that the Belgian striker has shown all his instability to the Inter executives, Beppe Marotta, in search of a forward and forced to balance competitiveness and sustainability, has contacted Dybala’s agents. Dybala’s contract with Roma is valid until June 30, 2025, and there are two clauses in the agreement. One clause, valued at 12 million for foreign clubs, can be canceled by Roma by increasing Paulo’s salary, but the final decision lies with the player. The other clause, also valued at 12 million, can be exercised in Italy, with the club’s decision being decisive.
Marotta wanted to gather information about the costs of the operation and the possibility of Dybala being able to leave Roma independently at a reasonable cost, without being hindered by the club. However, no progress has been made beyond discussions. Undoubtedly, Dybala’s potential arrival would have ignited the imagination of disappointed fans after Lukaku’s departure. Now, Marotta and Ausilio are considering promising Balogun as their first choice and Beto as a safe backup option.
But will Paulo renew his contract with Roma, as hoped in the capital? Certainly not immediately, as the clause can be exercised until July 31. Dybala’s agents have only spoken to Tiago Pinto over the phone and do not feel the need to extend the contract. An increase linked to the second year of his stay in Rome is already included in the current contract.
Meanwhile, Inter has another pressing issue to resolve: the goalkeeper position. It remains to be seen if any help will come from Juventus. Due to the need to reduce the wage bill, Cristiano Giuntoli will return to Italy over the weekend, without waiting for the end of Juventus’ American tour. At Continassa, there are surplus players to be dealt with, starting from Zakaria and ending with Bonucci.
No one at Juventus is untouchable at the moment, not even Szczesny, who earns 13 million gross and still has two years left on his contract. This is why it is not excluded that the Juventus executive is ready to negotiate the sale of his goalkeeper with Bayern Munich. As known, Bayern, with Neuer recovering from a serious injury, blocked Sommer’s departure to Inter as they have not yet found a suitable replacement. They negotiated with Mamardashvili and then turned to David Raya, for whom Brentford is asking for 40 million. It is evident that the relatively low price of the Polish goalkeeper (10 million) could be appealing to the Germans. This is the solution that Marotta and Ausilio hope for because only the addition of a successor would free up Sommer, allowing him to move from the German national team’s training camp in Japan to Inter’s. After all, Bayern has dampened the expectations of the Nerazzurri. “We cannot put pressure on Neuer to be ready for the first match and we cannot spend crazy money on another goalkeeper,” they said.
Meanwhile, Inter has loaned Radu to Bournemouth with a buyout option and is considering Audero as an alternative plan B to Trubin, so the demands of Shakhtar Donetsk have not diminished.
Can Marotta’s contact with Dybala’s representatives be seen as a strong indication that Inter is actively pursuing a move for the Roma player?
En to Marotta to gather information and explore the possibility of a move to Inter. At this point, it is unclear whether Dybala will actually leave Roma, but the contact with Marotta suggests that there is interest from both parties.
In addition to Dybala, Marotta has also been in contact with Wojciech Szczesny’s representatives. The Inter CEO is reportedly considering the Polish goalkeeper as a potential replacement for Samir Handanovic, who is nearing the end of his career. Szczesny has been a key player for Juventus in recent years, but with the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma, his future at the club is uncertain.
If Inter were to sign Szczesny, it could have a domino effect on the goalkeeping market. One possibility is that Sommer, who currently plays for Borussia Monchengladbach, could become available. The German international has been linked with a move to the Premier League, but if Szczesny were to join Inter, it could open the door for Sommer to make a switch to Serie A.
Overall, Marotta is actively exploring his options in the transfer market as he looks to strengthen Inter’s squad for the upcoming season. The contacts with Dybala and Szczesny indicate that the club is considering potential reinforcements in attack and goalkeeping. However, it remains to be seen whether these discussions will lead to any concrete deals.
“Mi piacerebbe vedere Paulo Dybala nella mia squadra, ma le tensioni a Casa Milan potrebbero rendere difficile la sua acquisizione. L’Inter potrebbe approfittare di questa situazione e ottenere una vera stella del calcio.”
“Non vedo l’ora di vedere Dybala in maglia romanista! Speriamo che l’interesse dell’Inter non crei ulteriori tensioni a Casa Milan. Il mercato calcistico continua a sorprenderci!”
