The official committee for hourly contract professors at the Lebanese University called for a sit-in in front of the university’s central administration in the museum, tomorrow, Tuesday, at one o’clock in the afternoon, to demand approval of the sabbatical file.
However, professors’ sources confirmed to Lebanon Debate that “this sit-in has been cancelled, in light of a meeting held today, Monday, with the President of the Lebanese University, Dr. Bassam Badran.”
She confirmed that “the retreat from the sit-in came after the professors saw positive signs that the university president conveyed to the professors regarding the possibility of a solution regarding the issue of their sabbatical at the university.”
The follow-up committee for contract professors will issue a statement shortly explaining the merits of the meeting, what was discussed with the university president, and the promises they heard in the meeting that led them to make this decision.
The professors had gone through several rounds in order to discharge them, and they had previously promised that this demand would be on the agenda of an upcoming session of the Council of Ministers. Will relief come to them soon?
