Positive Children of Covid-19 in Indonesia are the highest in the Asia Pacific

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Children Indonesia is vulnerable to the Covid-19 pandemic both from a health and social perspective. Covid-19 cases experienced by children are still high every week, namely around 8-10 percent. Even with the child mortality rate which is the highest in ASEAN and Asia Pacific.

It is even higher than what happened in the United States and India, “said Director of Child Social Rehabilitation, Kanaya Eka Santi in the webinar Social Protection in Covid-19 Response: Protection and Inclusive Social Services, Jakarta, Tuesday (23/3/2021).

Until October 10, 2020, total children those exposed to the corona virus reached 37,218 cases and 208 of them died. Although the percentage of children exposed to Covid-19 is only 10 percent of national cases, this is the highest case compared to various countries.

“Indeed, only 10 percent of the total cases in Indonesia, but in nominal numbers, the cases of this child is greater than the total cumulative cases in several countries,” he said.

Likewise with cases of death child Covid-19 accounts for 1 percent of adult deaths, but remains the highest of several countries.

Kanaya explained the findings from a survey conducted by Save Children in April 2020 with 11,989 parent respondents and 4,698 teachers in 32 Indonesian provinces. The survey results showed 44 percent of respondents did not know what to do if their children were exposed to the corona virus.

As many as 24 million children under five are at higher risk of experiencing malnutrition. About 10 million children under the age of 2 have difficulty accessing immunization and 42 percent or around 33 million child has no insurance.
