Epidemiologist from Griffith University, Dicky Budiman stated that Indonesia has the potential to become the epicenter corona virus World Covid-19. Dicky responded to the finding of a positive Covid-19 case confirmation at Indonesia per Wednesday (23/9) to break the record again.
“The potential for Indonesia to become the epicenter of course is there. We were once the epicenter of a bird flu pandemic,” said Dikcy to CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (23/9).
Dicky said that Indonesia has the potential and situation to become the epicenter of Covid-19, for example from the high number of cases in the last few days. Today, Indonesia has scored a record of reaching 4,465 positive cases of Covid-19. So, he said it must be prevented.
Dicky explained that the epicenter of the pandemic is not just the high number of cases. However, he said a country becomes the epicenter when it has high active cases over a period of time.
“For example, the epicenter of the initial time was Wuhan, the cases did not reach millions. Then switch to South Korea. Moved again to Europe, for example Italy to Spain. Then happened in the United States with millions of cases,” he said.
After coming from the US, Dicky considered India the most potential to become the new Covid-19 epicenter. Meanwhile, Indonesia, he said, has the potential because of the increasing active cases.
“We must try to prevent this and it is not too late, although it has been seen that the number of victims is increasing in pain and death,” said Dicky.
On the other hand, Dicky conveyed the increasing number of cases due to the lack of awareness of each region to conduct tests. From the data, he observes that testing has not increased significantly since the beginning of the pandemic.
“This is dangerous because this virus has an exponential pattern, meaning that transmission continues to occur. And I see the multiplier is getting faster,” he said.
More than that, Dicky asked all public officials not to let the artistic aspect go, namely testing. He also reminded that there are many test alternatives that can be used if you consider PCR to be limited, for example using the rapid antigen test.
Today, the addition of new cases reached 4,465 cases. This figure beat the previous record of 4,275 cases on September 21.
During the past week, additional positive cases stood at 3,800-4,000 cases a day. The first 4,000 cases occurred on September 19, to be precise 4,168.
The addition of cases edged down to 3,989 cases the following day, but again rose on September 21 to 4,176 cases, and fell to 4,071 cases on September 22.
The accumulation of positive Covid-19 cases today is 257,388 cases, of which the number of recoveries is 187,958, and cases of death are 9,977 cases.
The Covid-19 Handling Task Force noted that there were five provinces with the most cases, namely DKI Jakarta (1,133 cases), West Java (516 cases), East Java (338 cases), Central Java (257 cases), and Banten (216 cases). . Then, there were 204 positive cases in West Sumatra Province.
Other provinces with additional records of cases above 100 are East Kalimantan (196 cases), Riau (188 cases), Bali (130 cases), Papua (138 cases), South Sulawesi (124 cases), Riau Islands (117 cases), Sumatra. South (110 cases). Meanwhile, other provinces recorded additional daily cases of less than 100.
Provinces with the fewest additional cases were Maluku with two cases, North Sulawesi and West Kalimantan with six cases each, and 9 new cases in Jambi.
