GEMONA. Luciano Londero, master craftsman of Campolessi and historical leader of the Ana, died. Luciano Londero passed away at the age of 77 on Thursday morning in the Covid ward of the Gemona hospital, three weeks after the disappearance of his twin brother Livio, who died on April 22: also infected by the virus. Luciano had been ill for some time and was being followed by the Tolmezzo hospital. At Easter he had tested positive for swabs carried out before hospitalization: he had been infected by his twin Livio who every day took the newspaper home by bicycle. Following the positivity, Luciano Londero had been hospitalized in Udine where he had overcome the symptoms of Covid and was later transferred to Gemona, but his condition quickly worsened. The news of his death spread quickly to Campolessi where Luciano Londero was well known for his long activity as a carpenter craftsman who had carried out in his workshop in via dei Pini, an intense activity that in the seventies had allowed him to obtain the title of Knight of Labor: even today, many of the wooden doors and windows of many Gemonese families were made by him.
His manual skills combined with his attachment to the village have made him one of the central figures in the village over the decades. In 1971 he was the founder of the Ana group from Campolessi, which he led as group leader until 1976: “We hug our family – said Ivo Del Negro, president of the Ana branch of Gemona -: when in 2011 we celebrated the 40 years of the Ana group , Luciano gave me a wooden rhombus with the alpine hat made by him and which I still have. In September, anti Covid directives permitting, we want to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ana di Campolessi: it will be a good opportunity to warmly remember him ».
For the Alpini of Campolessi Luciano Londero had undertaken to build the headquarters, a small house purchased by himself in Carnia and then placed in his laboratory which is still located today in the park of Remembrance, the park of the hamlet: that place too has become one of the most evocative of the locality thanks to Londero’s commitment.
In the township, Luciano Londero was also active and present in the recreational and cultural club that organizes the feast of San Marco. Londero, who was part of the board of the association, participated in the first editions of that festival towards the end of the 1960s when it took place in the area adjacent to Londero’s house: “We are very saddened by the loss of Luciano – comments David Cragnolini , president of the club -, a valid person and always available to the initiatives of the village. We will not forget it. We hug our families, expressing our closeness ».
Luciano Londero leaves his wife Marisa and many grandchildren. The date of the funeral has not yet been set.
