POSCO Humans’ Forest Experience and Family Forest Programs: Promoting Mental Health and Employee Well-being

I POSCO Humans conducts ‘Forest Experience’ and ‘Family Forest’ programs to take care of employees’ mental health

POSCO Humans (CEO Kim Gyu-hong) conducted a special program to take care of the mental health of employees.

POSCO Humans prepares its own ‘Forest Experience Program’ to help employees suffering from busy work soothe their bodies and minds, and provides convenience for disabled employees to participate in the ‘Family Forest Program’ run by an external organization. We prepared a ‘Mind Health Healing Program’ so that employees could take a break in the green nature.

The ‘Forest Experience Program’, which was concluded after a total of 8 sessions on the 20th, is an experiential activity program with nature that POSCO Humans has been conducting since September 7th. This program, which was held at the National Forest Healing Center in Yeongju and Yecheon, Gyeongbuk, was attended by 262 employees performing office/IT work at POSCO Humans. Employees who participated in the program had a chance to relieve their daily stress by experiencing various experiences such as barrier-free forest trail trekking, tea ceremony experience, meditation, and water therapy for two days and one night.

POSCO Human participated in the ‘Familying Forest (a compound word of ‘family + healing + forest’) program, which was held in two sessions for 2 days and 1 night on the 28th, 29th, 14th and 15th. 53 disabled employees and their families working at the Pohang and Gwangyang Cleaning Centers participated. POSCO Humans created an environment for disabled employees to comfortably participate in the program by matching mentor employees to the Familying Forest program hosted by the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled and the Korea Forest Welfare Agency and providing care at the National Chilgok Forest Center. Program participants walked a forest path in a safe environment with mentor employees and spent some time recharging themselves while engaging in various activities such as psychological therapy linked to forest resources, health promotion activities, and forest interpreter job experience.

An employee who participated in this ‘Mental Health Healing Program’ said, “I felt like my mind and body were being purified just by being in a green forest with clean air.” He added, “This program is about traveling with not only colleagues but also family. “It was a happy time to escape from everyday life,” he said.

Meanwhile, POSCO Humans is Korea’s first subsidiary-type standard workplace for the disabled, established by POSCO in December 2007. In April of this year, it received the Iron Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for its contribution to employment promotion of the disabled in recognition of its contribution to providing quality jobs to the disabled. .
