POSCO Group announced on the 8th that Chairman Choi Jeong-woo met with a delegation of Ukrainian lawmakers visiting Korea at the POSCO Center in Seoul on the 6th and discussed ways to cooperate in the Ukraine reconstruction project.
Ukrainian lawmakers Andriy Nikolaenko and Representative Serhiy Taruta, who visited Korea at the invitation of the Korean-Ukrainian Parliamentary Friendship Association, said they visited the POSCO Center as part of a corporate visit to discuss post-war reconstruction projects and had a friendly chat with Chairman Choi Jeong-woo.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Korea Dmytro Ponomarenko also attended the meeting.
Chairman Choi said, “The Korean government has a firm commitment to the Ukraine reconstruction project, and Korean companies, including POSCO Group, are also actively participating, so the solidarity between the two countries will be further strengthened.” He added, “As soon as the war ended, we will continue to participate in the reconstruction project. “We will work on the reconstruction project by concentrating all of POSCO Group’s capabilities so that we can get started,” he said.
In response, Rep. Andriy Nikolaenko said, “I think POSCO Group is the best partner in rebuilding Ukraine, which was wounded by war, and further building a new Ukraine.” “We will actively work to ensure that our cooperation yields results,” he responded.
POSCO Group launched the ‘Ukraine Reconstruction TF’ in March of this year and is currently promoting participation in reconstruction projects in five business areas: steel, food, secondary battery materials, energy, and infrastructure.
In the steel industry, we are promoting cooperation in various fields such as energy generation for steel production and eco-friendly iron making through the Ukrainian government’s ‘Steel Reconstruction Program’.
In the food business, POSCO International has continued to expand sales at the grain terminal it has been operating in Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine since 2019, while also considering business cooperation in the secondary battery materials and energy fields with local companies.
Regarding infrastructure projects, we plan to explore ways with the governments of both countries to utilize steel modular housing, which can dramatically shorten the construction period, in reconstruction projects.
POSCO Group is also focusing on supporting the educational environment for future generations in Ukraine, which is experiencing difficulties due to the prolonged war.
Through the Global Young Leaders Program, POSCO Group provides outstanding university students in Ukraine the opportunity to participate in a one-year POSTECH exchange student program.
