Brazilian rescuers were busy Saturday recovering the bodies of victims of Friday’s plane crash. So far, 31 bodies have been recovered from the rubble. In addition to Brazilians, the 62 victims included a woman from Portugal and a four-year-old boy from Venezuela.
The plane happened near the town of Vinhedo, less than 50 kilometers from São Paulo. The dead are moved to that capital. There, each victim must be identified by family members.
It is not yet clear what caused the machine to crash. Rescuers found the plane’s black boxes, which contained audio recordings from the cockpit and technical data. (Read more below the picture)
On Friday night, the airline Voepass announced that there were 62 residents on board the plane. After that, that number was changed to 61. Voepass will return to this on Saturday, and it turned out that a person who was not on the passenger list due to a “technical problem” was also on board the plane. 58 passengers and four crew members have died.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has announced three days of mourning to remember the victims.
