On December 12, the famous Portuguese singer Salvador Sobrals will perform in the cultural space “Hanzas perons”. His performance will take place as part of the European tour of the third album “bpm” released in early summer.
Salvador Sobrals became known to a wider audience after the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017, when the ballad Amar pelos dois, composed by Sister Louise Sobral, won both the audience and the jury vote, setting a record for the most points.
Portuguese music lives outside the confines of specific styles and offers a global vision of the modern world. This is also the program of the new album, which was created during the pandemic. The album “bpm” includes songs written by Sobrala himself in Portuguese, Spanish and English. It is still live music performed by the singer with a highly professional quintet of accompanying musicians, including Sobrala’s longtime colleagues – double bassist Andre Rosinja and drummer Bruno Pedroso, as well as guitarist Andre Santos, pianist Abe Rabade and electronic keyboardist Leo Aldrijs. co-author of the new songs and producer of “bpm”.
The name of the new album refers to the number of beats per minute, which is used both in music to determine the rhythm rate, and in cardiology. It should be recalled that Sobral underwent heart surgery just before winning the Eurovision Song Contest, so this connection can be attributed to him in the most direct way. This is the first album in which the singer has participated in the composition of all the songs, so in an interview with the BBC he says: “The songs are mine, so they are also my heartbeat per minute. My sister says she thinks this is my first adult album. She is proud of it. Her opinion is most important to me. ” By the way, sister Louise Sobrala has also participated in one of the songs on the new album – “fui ver meu amor”, for which she wrote the lyrics.
