The loss of Juliao Sarmento leaves a great void in the panorama of contemporary Portuguese art, since its 72 years had been converted into beacon of Portuguese creativity more current. Debtor of graphic design and interpreter of apparently contradictory trends, the architect of an intense work never forgot the overflowing expression through the most diverse languages: photography, collage, painting, sculpture…, because multiplicity constituted its natural habitat.
His everlasting Lisbon has seen him say goodbye from the Champalimaud Foundation, a leading medical research center. That Lisbon that loomed through the traces of its universal stamp and from whose bustle it preferred to get away to take refuge in nearby Estoril.
