The 66-year-old coach also called superstars Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus Turin, Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United and Bernardo Silva from Manchester City to his 26-man squad.
New to the Portuguese are Granada’s goalkeeper Rui Silva, who has been sniffing the Iberians since September 2020, and Sporting Lisbon’s shooting star Pedro Gonçalves, who contributed 23 goals and four assists to his club’s championship title.
Compared to the team from the last European Championship in 2016, the Seleçao has an even stronger effect with well-known players such as João Félix from Atlético Madrid, ex-Bayern player Renato Sanches from Lille OSC and the current best player in the Premier League, Rúben Dias from Manchester City.
Gonçalo Paciência from FC Schalke, João Queirós from 1. FC Köln, Bruma from Olympiakos Piraeus, Cédric Soares from FC Southampton or final scorer Éder from Lok Moscow were not considered.
Portugal faces its group opponents from June 15th. It starts in Budapest against Hungary, followed by the game in Munich against the DFB-Elf on June 19th and finally the revival of the last European Championship final against France on June 23rd in Budapest.
