In August this year, solar energy had a share of over 15.3 percent in the total electricity consumption in Portugal. The share of hydroelectric power plants is falling – said the company responsible for the distribution of electricity in this country, REN.

According to REN statistics, the record month in this respect so far was July 2024, when the share of energy from photovoltaic panels reached 15%.

The Portuguese electricity supplier said that after eight months of this year, renewable energy was responsible for almost 80 percent of the country’s electricity consumption.

The share of energy generated from photovoltaic panels in Portugal’s total electricity consumption between January and August reached almost 10%.

The largest share, over 35 percent, of electricity consumed in Portugal in 2024 continues to be that of energy from hydropower plants.

Due to the drought this summer, in July and August the share of hydroelectric power plants in the production of electricity consumed in Portugal was lower – it oscillated at the level of 14%.

On July 1, Poland had operating onshore wind farms with a capacity of 10,331 MW, and on June 1, 2024, we had photovoltaic farms with a total capacity of 18,938 MW – informs Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne.

For comparison, at the end of 2023, the installed capacity of photovoltaic installations in Poland reached 17.08 GW, which means that over the first five months of 2024, Poland saw the addition of approximately 1.85 GW of photovoltaic installations.
