Portugal Suffers First Defeat in 7 Years to Georgia in 2024 World Cup Qualifier

Portugal lost this Wednesday in Tbilisi, to Georgia, 2-1, in the 6th and final round of Group E qualifying for the 2024 World Cup.

The quinas team had not been defeated in official games for more than seven years. The last time happened at the 2016 World Cup, in Colombia, when Jorge Braz’s men fell to Argentina (3-5) in the semi-finals, on October 1 of that year.

Against Georgia, Hugo Neves put the National Futsal Team ahead in the second half (22′), but the Georgians turned things around with goals from Chimba (33′) and Ghavtadze (38′).

Portugal, remember, had already secured 1st place in the group and direct qualification for the World Cup, which will be held in Uzbekistan, where it will defend the title won in 2021.
