The Portuguese roller hockey team qualified this Saturday for the final of the Nations Cup, in Montreux, Switzerland, by beating Italy 3-2 in the penalty shoot-out, after a goalless match.
After a semi-final in which neither team managed to score, in regular time or extra time, João Rodrigues and Gonçalo Alves twice gave Portugal an advantage in the ‘lottery’, but Alessandro Verona and Davide Banini canceled them out.
With the 11th shot, Gonçalo Alves scored again, unlike Alessandro Verona, in the 12th, and the ‘quinas’ formation thus marked a meeting in the final with Argentina, while Italy will compete for the ‘bronze’ ‘ with France.
The FPP reported that Gonçalo Alves “suffered trauma during the match” and that “he was immediately assisted, and then made himself available, in conjunction with the technical team and the medical department, to make an important contribution to the team’s success” .
