Portugal rises to fifth place in the UEFA – Benfica ranking

France lags behind thanks to Benfica qualification

With Benfica’s qualification, Portugal surpassed France in the UEFA ranking, rising to 5th place. The Eagles’ success yielded another 0.5 points for the draw and four for qualifying for the Champions group stage. Our country has 44,216 points, against 43,498 for France. Now, Shakhtar must lend a hand, eliminating Monaco today. The 5th place allows Portugal to place three teams directly into the group stage of the competition in 2024/25.

Three teams in the group stage for the seventh time

Portugal again has three clubs in the Champions League group stage for the 7th time. This had happened in 2006/07, 2007/08, 2012/13, 2014/15, 2016/17 and 2017/18. The big ones were almost always the Portuguese representatives, with one exception: in 2012/13, Sp. Braga accompanied Benfica and FC Porto. The eagles’ qualification prevented the lions from accumulating a further 1.108 M€. Still, Sporting will be favored if Salzburg and Shakhtar are eliminated today.
