Portugal remains painted in dark red on the European map of COVID-19 – Science

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control has already updated European maps with data on the number of new infections of the new coronavirus, and also on positivity after tests, and Portugal remains at the top of the list of most affected countries in the last 15 days.

A new color code has been applied since last week, adding dark red to mark the most serious cases, where the notification rate for positive cases in the last 14 days is over 500 per 100,000 people. In the first published maps Portugal stood out for the presentation of the new color and the same happens again this week.

The situation is visible in the combined risk map and also in the new notifications of infections with the new coronavirus.

On the website of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, it is also possible to access global and detailed data for each country, with information on the evolution of vaccination.

The data shared yesterday by the General Directorate of Health indicate that Portugal registered 225 deaths and 7,914 infected in the last 24 hours, with positive signs in relation to the evolution of the disease and exceeding 10,000 recovered. Lisbon and the Tagus Valley continue to be the area of ​​the country with the most new cases of infection.

A researcher from the Public Health Institute of the University of Porto indicated yesterday that the peak of new cases of infection was reached on January 28 with about 13,000 notifications and the peak of deaths is expected to occur this week.

Globally, the pandemic has already caused at least 2,269,346 deaths among the more than 104,350,880 infected since SARS-CoV-2 was identified in China in December 2019, as indicated by an AFP balance sheet. In the last 24 hours, there were 15,331 deaths and 501,061 cases and at least 63,406,500 people were considered cured worldwide.

In the list of countries that registered more deaths in the latest data revealed are the United States, with 3,540 deaths, Mexico with 1,707 and the United Kingdom with 1,322.

The United States is the country most affected both in number of deaths and in cases, with 450,806 deaths in 246,557,354 registered cases, according to the Johns Hopkins University count. Second is Brazil, with 227,563 deaths and 9,339,420 cases, followed by Mexico with 161,240 deaths and 1,886,245 cases, India with 154,703 dead and 10,790,183 infected and the United Kingdom with 109,335 deaths in 3,871. 825 cases.

Belgium stands out with the highest number of deaths in relation to its population, registering 183 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. This analysis follows Slovenia (171), United Kingdom (161), Czech Republic (157) and Italy (149).
