Portugal Qualifies for the Round of 16, Ronaldo is Brilliant

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Portugal drew 2-2 against French in the last match of Group F Euro 2020 (Euro 2021) at the Puskas Arena, Budapest, Hungary, Thursday (24/6) early morning WIB.

This draw made Portugal qualify for the round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams. Portugal qualified to accompany France and Germany from Group F.

Portugal should also thank Cristiano Ronaldo. The Selecao das Quinas captain bought up two goals that made the Portugal vs France match ended in a draw.

In this match, Portugal was able to take the lead through Ronaldo’s penalty goal in the 28th minute. The referee pointed to the spot after Hugo Lloris punched Danilo in the face as he came out of the net to secure the Portugal free-kick.

Ronaldo, who advanced as an executor, did his job well. Ronaldo’s kick into the left corner of the goal outwit Lloris who moved in the wrong direction.

France, who appeared less than enthusiastic, was awarded a penalty in the first half of injury time. The referee awarded a penalty because Kylian Mbappe was considered to have been violated by Nelson Semedo while trying to chase the ball in the penalty box.

Karim Benzema who served as the executor managed to do a good job to make the score 1-1. The score lasted until the first half was over.

France managed to lead 2-1 over Portugal when the second half had been running for two minutes. Benzema’s goal was disallowed for offside, but the referee approved the Real Madrid striker’s goal after going through the process of reviewing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

One minute later Portugal almost equalized. Ronaldo managed to reach the cross but his header still did not find the target.

Portugal continues to work hard to equalize. The effort paid off in the 59th minute when the ball that Ronaldo tried to pass hit Jules Kunde’s arm in the penalty box.

The referee awarded Portugal a kick from the 12th spot which was executed perfectly by Ronaldo to make the score 2-2.

In the 67th minute, France came close in this match if Patricio had not made successive brilliant saves. Patricio flew in to deny Paul Pogba’s shot which went into the left corner of the goal and the rebound that Griezmann kicked was countered by Patricio.

The Portugal vs France match was getting more and more intense after the score was 2-2. Both teams took turns launching attacks but until the match ended the score 2-2 did not change.
