The ban on night movement will apply in 45 high-risk municipalities, including Lisbon and tourist Albufeira.
The Portuguese authorities are imposing a night time curfew from 23:00 in municipalities with a high rate of coronavirus infections, including the capital Lisbon, reports Public.
“Under no circumstances can we say that the pandemic is under control. The situation we are in is not as difficult as the country has experienced over the past year and a half, but it is a more serious situation,” said Minister Mariana Silva Vieira.
Portugal has the highest number of daily infections since February – more than 2,000 cases in a single day – mostly in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley region.
It is noted that the curfew will begin on Friday and will operate from 23:00 to 5:00. It will be extended to 45 high-risk municipalities, including the touristy Albufeira in the sunny southern Algarve region.
Earlier it was reported that due to the Delta coronavirus strain Ukrainians are advised not to visit four countriesincluding Portugal. Before that due to the outbreak of COVID-19 Lisbon will be closed for entry and exit.
