Sharjah 24 – Asad Khalil:
Portugal defeated their rivals Switzerland 6-1 thanks to their young striker Goncalo Ramos, who replaced superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, scoring a hat-trick that took them to the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup at Lusail Stadium.
Ramos, 21, scored hard in his first international match as a starter, and his goals came in the 17th, 51st and 67th minutes, Pepe 33, Rafael Guerrero 55 and Rafael Leao 90 + 2 added the others goals, while Manuel Akanji scored Switzerland’s only goal 58.
Portugal set up a quarter-final fixture with Morocco on Saturday, who achieved a sensational surprise by eliminating Spain on penalties earlier.
