Portugal coach Fernando Santos reveal the reason for backing up Cristiano Ronaldo when I see Spain. Ronaldo only played in the middle of the second half.

Santos revealed the reason for not playing Ronaldo as a starter in the match against Portugal. He emphasized this decision was taken purely because of tactics. The man from 67 years has absolutely no doubts about the capacity of the Manchester United striker.
“Cristiano Ronaldo? They often ask why he started. It’s a million dollar question. I understand that for this match it was better to use the players I used,” Santos said as quoted by the Independent.
“It’s a technical and tactical option for the game. For us it is the best solution. For the way we want to play and the approach in the game. It has nothing to do with Cristiano’s quality, it’s not even in question.”
“There are moments in the game when you have to think in a different way. We believed that in the second half he could come in and be the solution for the game,” he explained.
