Portkeys unveiled its compact and lightweight 5.4-inch touchscreen monitor PL5 at IBC2024 in Amsterdam.

In addition to all the monitoring tools you’d expect from a professional monitor, the PL5 also includes multiple live streaming tools such as color grading, cropping tools, and image flipping to save filmmakers and content creators time on set. It is said to save money.

PL5 is a lightweight on-camera monitor made of ABS and PC, weighing 154.5g and measuring 135.1 x 82.5 x 22mm. It has a 5.4-inch 10-bit (8+2 FRC) touchscreen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1152, maximum brightness of 500 nits, contrast ratio of 1000:1, and a wide viewing angle of 178°.

At the top of the monitor, there is only one on/off switch, one screen/UI lock switch, and one battery release button.

On the left side of the monitor, there is one 4K DCI 30p HDMI video input port, one 3.5mm headphone jack, and one 3.5mm microphone input. All video output ports are located on the right side of the PL5 and include one HDMI output port, one USB 3.0 output port, and one USB 3.0 Type-C video output port. The maximum resolution is 1080P60.

The back of the PL5 has a built-in Sony NP-F style battery plate. With a low power consumption of only 7W, it can power the monitor for more than 2 hours. If you need longer runtime, you can power the PL5 via the USB-C port. There is one USB-A port on the bottom of the monitor, which can be used for future firmware updates or loading custom LUTs.

To mount the PL5 on a camera, camera rig, tripod, or gimbal, there are two 1/4″-20 mounting points with locating pins on the bottom and right side of the monitor.

The PL5 is equipped with the following professional monitoring tools needed to make accurate decisions on set.

• 3D LUT 3D LUT monitoring function with HDMI and USB-C output functions. Custom LUTs can be loaded from the USB-A port on the bottom of the monitor.
• Customizable with 13 false colors including ARRI false colors.
• RGB and luma waveform/histogram exposure tools, adjustable zebra tools.
• Desqueeze of anamorphic images compatible with all standard aspect ratios (1.33x, 1.5x, 2.0x) and possibility to enter custom aspect ratios from 0.25 to 4.0x.
• Stretch Leg Tool: Allows you to stretch the bottom of the image when shooting vertically. Stretch leg tool function can be sent to HDMI output.
• Image Capture: Image Capture takes a snapshot of the HDMI video input (optionally combined with a LUT) and stores it in the monitor’s memory. Image overlay transparency/opacity can be set.
• Image overlay: Helps you match shots (continuity) and quickly get an overview of the day’s shooting.
• Peaking and zoom functions make focusing easy.
• Framing tools: crosshair, check field, guide, grid, rectangle crop.
