Developer James Lambert has just released the first version of the Portal 64 demake for the Nintendo 64. Yes, you read that right. Portal 64 is the real thing and you can download it right now.
Portal 64: First Slice includes the first 13 test cameras from Portal. Portals and a portal gun work here. And yes, the demake will run on a real Nintendo 64. And that’s not all – Lambert plans to demake other test cameras in future versions.
Of course, PC users have the option of using Nintendo 64 emulators to play it on PC. As for the question “why?” when you can enjoy the game in all its ray tracing glory? There is a simple answer to this question: “Why not?” This is a free N64 ROM/game that showcases what could be achieved on this classic console. It’s like watching Doom run on a calculator. Just fun.
