The release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PC has been the moment that many gamers have been waiting for since last year, especially seeing how the game received a super positive reception and was still exclusive to the PlayStation console even until last month. But this sudden surprise ended up not meeting expectations, because the quality of the PC version of the Final Fantasy VII Remake port is reportedly very bad.
Some who have played the game claim to have received issues from the FPS drop even though they only rotated the camera’s point of view until the stutter was severe. This claim is further proven from the new tests carried out Alexander Battaglia who is the editor of Digital Foundry, where he noticed a severe FPS drop to a noticeable stutter when turning the camera. It should be noted that the PC specifications that are used are very capable, such as the i9-10900K and RTX 3090 processors, but the game is not even able to maintain stable performance at 60 FPS and 1080p resolution settings.
I never really do this, since I usually cover this in a video, but @oliemack is going to be on this when I am on holiday. But this is just one brief moment in the first 5 minutes of the game. Spinning the camera causes a sustained drop and then a big stutter. RTSS does not see it https://t.co/pvTAML3dEX pic.twitter.com/UgDWzO9Iav

Apart from the poor optimization, other criticisms are also aimed at how minimal the graphics options are. Some important options such as unlimited framerate options, VSync, and effects settings such as Motion Blur are not available in the game. For a game release that had received criticism first due to the high price tag of over IDR 1 million, all of these problems certainly made many fans disappointed. If you look at Square Enix’s history with games that have poor port quality like NieR: Automata for example, there are concerns that they don’t plan on improving the game in the near future and leaving it in its current state for a long time.
Despite the many criticisms above, we also found some acknowledgments from players who were able to enjoy the game without much trouble. Of course, everyone’s PC setup is quite different, and depending on the conditions, it’s not surprising if there are games that can actually run more smoothly on one system than on another.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake itself is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC via Epic Games Store. We admit that the quality of the game is very solid, but for those of you who are interested in buying it on a PC, you should hold on to that desire until at least there is an official patch / mod improvement.
