Port of Toga: the Cab launches an “economic pole” project

“C‘is a major operation that will bring entrepreneurship back to the heart of the agglomeration.’ ‘ Louis Pozzo di Borgo does not hide his ambitions. This Monday evening, in the brand new, freshly inaugurated deliberation room, the president of the Bastia agglomeration community (Cab) officially launched a vast project of “economic pole” on the port of Toga. Unanimously, the community council approved the acquisition, just a few meters from the headquarters of the institution, of a building complex of 1,726 m2 spread over two levels.

This purchase from the company Spada comes with a right to build on an area of 162 m2. Cost of the operation: 1.58 million euros. The acquisition of this urban wasteland will allow the rehabilitation and the provision of workspaces adapted to the needs of companies. “It is a much awaited infrastructure, which aims to meet a growing demand from economic players who wish to settle, explique Louis Pozzo di Borgo. With this operation, the Cab will be able to go from 1,000 to nearly 3,000 m2 of premises made available to businesses. “

PTIC: “The word of the State must be kept”

Fab lab, business incubators, digitally oriented companies … Several players have already expressed their interest in this project as part of the “Industry Territory” scheme.

After this acquisition, the Cab should launch rehabilitation work by the end of the year for finalization before the summer of 2023. The cost of the work is estimated at 3 million euros. Only here it is: the progress of the project already seems strewn with pitfalls. The funding hoped for under the transformation and investment plan in Corsica (PTIC) could be reduced to the bare minimum.

“The State had announced funding to the tune of 70 or even 80%, but it could ultimately be 30%, which will necessarily complicate the setting up of the project., says Guy Armanet *, vice-president of Cab. Without the slightest consultation with the Collectivity, the regional prefect signed protocols of intent across the island which were in fact only a masquerade. The word of the state must be kept. “

Deadlock ? For the president of the Cab, the word is not too strong. Louis Pozzo di Borgo now intends to request an interview with the prefect to initiate negotiations. No doubt they will be agitated …

* Newly elected to the Corsican Executive Council following the territorial elections last June, Guy Armanet will resign in September from his post as vice-president of the Cab in charge of waste collection. His first deputy mayor of Santa Maria di Lota, Jean-Charles Leonardi, should succeed him in this post and inherit this same delegation.
