The concerns of the 150 workers of the port cooperative “Flavio Gioia” are not appeased and the pressure from the trade union organizations which are calling for the immediate opening of a discussion to resolve the dispute of the “largest industry” of Salerno which risks being cancelled. To request that a discussion table be opened, Uil Trasporti Campania also intervened with a note signed by the general secretary, Antonio Aiello, and the regional secretary, Giuseppe Tamburro, in which a meeting is requested «urgent to avoid layoffs».
As the two secretaries recall «We have been denouncing the serious situation for some time, pointing out that urgent and concrete measures must be taken to address the crisis, otherwise we risk the dismissal of all employees». The companies that work within the city port, in fact, are continuing to hire themselves or exchange labor, bypassing the use of the company’s workforcewith the related decrease in orders and, consequently, in employment in the port cooperative which, in this way, is emptied of its very meaning.
«We cannot fail to point out that inappropriate management of work peaks, using external labor instead of using Company personnel, is mainly due to the deregulation of port work: the government should introduce rules that regulate the sector and encourage the use of skilled and stable workforce». Not only that, because, the secretaries continue in the note, «we ask loudly, in order to face the crisis, that the Port System Authority monitor the respect and correct implementation of law 84/94 (which in article 17 regulates the activities of entities such as the Salerno Company) and the “Organic Port Plan” is immediately adopted to maintain high attention on the quality and efficiency of work”.
