The Port of Brownsville, Texas, set a new trade record, with $7 billion in exports through the 62nd Free Trade Zone (FTZ), ranking third among U.S. FTZs. It also ranked 14th in imports for the first time, exceeding $3.2 billion.

In a statement, the Port of Brownsville highlighted that these figures mark a period of uninterrupted growth over the past 12 years. “Our FTZ is an indispensable asset that significantly strengthens the economic outlook of the Rio Grande Valley and northern Mexico by providing logistical support and generating savings for various industries. It plays a key role in job creation and economic development throughout the region, strengthening the Port of Brownsville as a premier location for business,” explained William Dietrich, director and CEO of the Port of Brownsville.

FTZ #62, one of the largest in the state of Texas, is located within Cameron County, facilitating trade processes for cities like Brownsville and Harlingen, and is a strategic route for international trade. “With our FTZ, companies can manage customs processes more efficiently, improving their competitiveness in the market. The services are reliable, timely and cost-effective, making the difference in maintaining a strong supply chain,” said Tony Rodriguez, Director of Cargo Services and FTZ Manager for the Port of Brownsville.

Currently, 115 companies are actively operating in the area, with various types of goods including oil, machinery, metals, iron/steel and textile/leather/fiber materials.
