The port authority is already working with a digital safety bracelet from a Belgian technology company that warns workers about dangerous situations. That device has been tested since last year and is now extended with new functions to comply with the World Health Organization (WHO) guideline to keep 1.5 meters away.
In addition, the bracelet stores who the wearer has been around. If someone turns out to be infected, a prevention advisor or confidential advisor can check which colleagues he or she has been in contact with. They will then be notified.
“It is essential that the port continues to operate and that our employees can work in a safe manner,” said CEO Jacques Vandermeiren of Port of Antwerp. “That’s why we see a lot of value in this solution and a team of operational employees will soon be working with the bracelet.”
