Port Authority of NY and NY to Have Checkpoints During Memorial Day Weekend – NBC New York (47)

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will conduct DWI checkpoints, that is, to find drivers who were driving under the influence of alcohol, during the Memorial Day weekend.

As travelers pack up their cars and prepare for the holiday weekend, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey remains committed to providing safe travel for all motorists throughout the region.

Beginning Friday, May 27 at 10:30 p.m. through Saturday, May 28 at 6:00 a.m., the Port Authority Police Department will conduct DWI checks at the bridges from Staten Island.

Drivers will be subject to random search and police will also distribute literature on the dangers of drinking and driving.

The American Automobile Association (AAA) noted that 39.2 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more for those vacations that unofficially kick off the summer season. That would be an 8.3% increase from 2021, the organization said.
