Porsche is developing an electric Taycan high-performance model that has clocked significantly better times than Tesla’s Model S Plaid in tests at the Nürnbergring circuit.
The Taycan pre-production prototype with test driver Lars Kern at the wheel completed the 20.8 km Nurburgring lap in 7:07.55 minutes, beating the Tesla Model S Plaid record by 17.681 seconds, bettering its time set by the Taycan Turbo S Sport in August 2022 by 26 seconds and only slightly behind the hypercar Rimac Nevera (7:05.298).
Kevin Giek, one of the model’s developers, stated that such an achievement brings the Taycan into the electric hypercar family.
Porsche hasn’t disclosed details about the upcoming high-performance model, but experts believe that the three-engine Taycan with 1,000 hp was on the track and could be known as the Taycan Turbo GT in the production version.
