Even before its unveiling, the Porsche Taycan set many records on the Nordschleife. In August 2019, the Turbo version lapped the circuit in 7 minutes and 42 seconds with test driver Lars Kern behind the wheel of the pre-production prototype.

The brand’s first electric car was dethroned in September 2021, when the Tesla Model S Plaid completed a lap in 7 minutes and 35 seconds. Now the German brand is reclaiming the title with the Turbo S model, with the same driver.

The sports sedan was equipped with a new Performance kit and an active chassis. Apart from the necessary protective frame and racing seats, it was in completely stock condition and weighed the same as a standard Taycan Turbo S. The 20.8 km circuit record was notarized.

The Performance package, which is currently only available for the most powerful version of the Turbo S for the German market, includes 21-inch wheels with road-approved Pirelli P Zero Corsa sports tires. Their compound is similar to that of racing tires, the software of the electric car is adapted to their higher grip.

“In the past, only purebred supercars could get 7:33,” says Kern. “With the new performance kit, I was able to push even harder and the car was even more precise and nimble.”

The power of the Turbo S model itself was also a key factor, reaching up to 460 kW (625 hp), which can be briefly increased from standstill to 560 kW (761 hp) with the active Launch Control system.
